What new fob creation covers

If your car needs a new way to unlock or start it, we set up a new fob for that vehicle rather than trying to fix a damaged one.

A replacement may be the practical choice if the original is missing, its electronics cannot be repaired, or you want another working set. Some cars use separate controls for the doors and the engine, while others combine them in one device. Your vehicle may also require a physical key for a door or the ignition, so a new remote alone is not always the whole solution.

A new device has to be compatible with your car and recognized by its security system before it can perform its intended functions. We match the replacement to the vehicle and program it for the functions the car supports. With you, we check the available door controls and starting functions, so you know what your new device does. If an old fob is lost, you may be able to remove its electronic access from the car. If you still have it, it may remain useful as a spare, though some vehicles require all retained devices to be programmed together.

Signs you need new fob creation

If your fob is lost or badly damaged and you have no working spare, you may need a new one set up for your car.

A cracked case or a sticking button does not automatically mean the electronics need replacing. If the car still starts and responds to the other controls, repair may be an option. A unit that has been crushed, soaked or torn apart may have damage beyond the visible shell, especially if it no longer starts the car or operates the doors.

A remote that works only from very close to the car, or responds only after repeated presses, may need a fresh battery rather than replacement. If that does not restore its functions, the problem could be in the remote or the car, so the symptom alone does not settle the question. A replacement that looks right but will not pair may be incompatible with your vehicle or may have been set up for another car. A compatible new unit may be the better choice. If the old one is missing, ask whether its access can be removed from the car.

How the work goes

During your call, we ask for the vehicle's year, make and model, its location, and whether you have a working key.

Those details help us identify a compatible fob and check what your vehicle requires for setup. Some vehicles need an existing working key for certain programming methods, while others allow a new one to be added without it. If you have any existing remotes, keep them available, since some vehicles require each one you want to keep using to be included in the setup. We will explain the available approach for your vehicle and any limits we find.

At the vehicle, we set up the new fob to communicate with the car and test its available functions with you, such as locking, unlocking and starting. We will also show you how its controls work and check that any devices you chose to keep still respond. You may want to keep an old one as a spare or remove a missing one from the vehicle's memory. Removing it can prevent it from operating the car electronically, but it does not change a physical key that fits the door. The options for retaining or removing existing devices vary by vehicle, and we will explain what applies to yours.

New Fob Creation questions

My only fob is gone. Can a replacement be set up without it?

We check what your vehicle requires to accept a new transmitter when no working original is available. Some vehicles allow a replacement to be programmed without an existing one. Others require a different procedure or equipment. The make, model and year matter, and the car's electronic system must be able to recognize the new device.

My car has push button starting. Will a new remote also include a physical key for the door?

We check whether your vehicle uses a separate emergency blade and whether the replacement includes one. That piece may unlock the driver's door if the electronic functions cannot be used. It is separate from the programming that allows the car to start, so you may need both a cut blade and an accepted electronic device.

I use the liftgate control on my current fob. Will a replacement have that function?

We match the replacement to your vehicle and the functions you want to keep. A device that looks similar may use a different signal or lack a control your car uses. Your vehicle also has to support each feature. An extra button on a replacement cannot add a function your car does not support.

I lost one of my car remotes. Can someone still use it after I get a replacement?

We check whether your vehicle allows the missing device to be removed from its stored access list. If removal is supported, the electronic commands from that device should no longer be recognized. A matching physical key may still open a door, so tell us if the missing one had a cut piece.

I have a working spare at home. Could setting up another one make it stop working?

We check whether your vehicle's programming procedure requires all working devices to be present. On some vehicles, adding a replacement can remove devices that are not included in the session. Bring your spare if you can, and tell us about any others you want to keep. We can check their functions with you rather than assuming they remain paired.
