What lock replacement covers
Lock replacement gives you a different way to secure a house door, whether you want hardware that works with your existing setup or a different look and feel.
Rekeying changes which key operates a lock but leaves the existing hardware in place. Replacement is the choice when that hardware is worn or damaged, or when you want to change its style, finish or function. We replace knob locks, lever sets, deadbolts, handle sets and cylinders. A lever offers an easy grip, while a knob has a round shape. A handle set gives an entry door a coordinated appearance.
Your choice also needs to fit the door. Existing openings and door thickness affect which hardware can be installed, and a different design may need different openings. A deadbolt provides a separate locking point, while some handle sets combine one with an exterior grip. If you want one key for every door, the locks need compatible keyways and cylinders; keeping some existing hardware may limit your choices. Replacing only the cylinder may be an option when the rest of the hardware is in good condition and accepts a suitable replacement. We help you choose parts that fit your doors and keying needs.
Signs you need lock replacement
If your key catches, turns roughly, or needs extra pressure to work, the lock may be worn or damaged.
A knob or lever that feels loose, spins, or fails to retract the latch is another sign that its working parts may be failing. If a deadbolt turns but does not extend or retract properly, the mechanism may need replacement. Stop forcing it, since a bent or broken key can make the problem harder to deal with. A door that latches only when you lift or push it may have a fit issue rather than a failed lock.
Visible cracks, corrosion, or a damaged cylinder are also reasons to consider new hardware. Rekeying changes which keys operate the existing cylinder, but it does not repair worn or broken parts. If the hardware works well and you only want different keys, rekeying may be enough. Replacement is the choice if you want a different handle set, a lever instead of a knob, or a finish that better matches your door. Before choosing a style, check whether the existing openings and door thickness will accommodate it.
How the work goes
On the call, we ask which entrances need new hardware and what you want to change.
You can tell us whether you prefer a knob, lever, deadbolt or handle set, along with the finish you have in mind. If you want one key for every door, tell us which existing locks you want included. The cylinders need to be compatible for that arrangement, so we will check what is already in place and explain your choices if the parts do not match. You can choose a different style without assuming it will fit the existing openings.
We check the openings, the thickness of the door and the alignment at the frame before fitting the new hardware. Some replacements match the openings already there, while others need a different fit. We explain what the selected parts require so you can decide whether to proceed. After installation, we test the operation from both sides and check that the latch or bolt lines up and holds as intended. You can try the keys and the controls yourself, and we will show you how the new set operates and explain any differences from your previous setup.

Lock Replacement questions
My keys have changed hands, but the hardware still works. Is rekeying enough?
We can rekey the existing cylinder so it works with different keys while leaving the visible hardware in place. It is a choice when you want different keys but like what is already on the door. Replacement gives you a different mechanism or appearance, which rekeying does not provide.
Which style makes sense for my front door if I want an easier grip?
A lever is easier to grasp than a round knob for many hands. A deadbolt adds a separate locking point, while a handle set combines an exterior grip with a lock. Consider how you use the entrance, whether you want separate controls, and how the style looks with the rest of the door.
Can I use one key for both entrances when the existing hardware looks different?
We can look for compatible keyways, the openings that accept the key. Different styles may still work with one key, but hardware with incompatible keyways may need replacement parts or a different set. One shared key is convenient, though anyone who has a copy can use it at each matched entrance.
Will a new lock fit my older door without leaving visible gaps?
We match the new hardware to the door thickness, hole sizes, spacing, and backset, which is the distance from the door edge to the center of the hole. Some styles have larger trim that covers existing marks or openings. Others may leave an outline from the old hardware visible.
What should I consider when choosing a finish for an exposed exterior entrance?
We recommend looking at finish samples in the light around your entrance and considering how much rain and sun reach it. A covered entry offers more shelter than a fully exposed one. Finish care varies, so check the product instructions before using cleaners, since abrasive products can affect the surface.
