About our residential locksmith work
Your home's entry hardware may include several kinds of locks, from the one on your front door to the one on your mailbox.
We repair and replace residential hardware, including the mechanism that secures a door and the hardware on a mailbox. Rekeying changes which key operates an existing lock while leaving the hardware in place. Replacement exchanges that hardware for another unit, giving you the option to change its appearance or features. We also install deadbolts, adding a separate locking point where the door is suitable for one.
Smart lock installation adds electronic access to an entry. Some models use a keypad, while others also offer controls through a phone. Available features vary by model, as do power needs and backup ways to get in. We look at the existing entry and hardware to determine what will fit, and we explain how the selected setup operates. For a mailbox, replacement focuses on the hardware that secures the compartment. Across these services, you can expect us to explain what the work involves and what will change about your access, including which keys or electronic methods will operate the finished setup.

Which service fits your problem?
If your house keys are missing, or you want a previous key to stop working, lock rekeying may be the right choice.
We change the existing hardware so it works with a different key. If you also want a different style, or the hardware is too worn to keep, lock replacement may be the better match. Where the hardware is compatible, you can choose whether the new lock shares a key with your other doors or uses a separate one.
A key that sticks or a latch that fails to catch may point to door lock repair. We look at how the door and its hardware meet before recommending a repair or replacement. If you want an additional locking point on an exterior door, deadbolt installation is a separate choice. The door and its existing hardware need to be suitable for the model you choose.
For entry with a code instead of relying only on a key, smart lock installation may fit. Models differ in how you grant and remove access, whether they retain a key option, and what power they need. We can look at whether the model you have in mind fits your door. If your mailbox key no longer works or you need a different key for the box, mailbox lock replacement is the service to ask about. The type of box and its hardware determine what replacement options fit.
What to tell us when you call
Tell us which door is giving trouble and what you want at the end: the same lock working again, a different key, or a stronger lock than the one you have.
The brand name stamped on the lock face, or a photo of it, often answers the first question for us.
If you rent, check with your landlord before any lock is changed or rekeyed, since many leases say who controls the keys.
What you can check before you call
If your key feels stiff, stop turning it and check that you are using the right one.
Look for bends or cracks, and set a damaged key aside rather than forcing it into the lock. With the door open, try the handle and see whether the latch moves freely. Then close the door gently and notice whether it catches without pushing or lifting. For a smart lock, check the display or app for a low battery message, and replace the batteries with the type specified in its instructions. Keep another way inside available while you test it.
If something is lodged in the opening, do not dig at it or pour in oil, glue, or household cleaners. Avoid taking the hardware apart or tightening screws at random, since loose pieces or changes in alignment can make the trouble harder to trace. For a mailbox, confirm the box number and stop if the mechanism resists turning. Tell us what you noticed, including any change when you opened or closed the entrance.

Residential Locksmith questions
Can rekeying give me one way to open several entrances to my home?
We check whether the existing cylinders accept the same type of key and whether each one is in good working condition. Compatible hardware can often be set to work with a single key. If the pieces do not match, replacing some of them may be necessary to give you one shared way in.
What happens if the batteries in a smart lock lose power at my house?
We explain the access options built into the model you choose. Some models have a physical backup, while others use an external power connection. The details vary by model. We also show you how to manage access codes and explain what happens to saved settings when power is lost.
Can you replace the mailbox lock if my home uses a shared bank of boxes?
We look at the box and its configuration to determine what work is possible on your individual compartment. Some shared banks are maintained by a postal service or property manager, so you may need to coordinate with them. The arrangement matters because the shared structure serves other homes too.
Will a replacement deadbolt match the finish and fit of my existing entry hardware?
We examine the existing opening and look for a replacement that fits your door and suits its appearance. Finishes and shapes vary, so an exact visual match may not be available. Marks or openings from the old piece may remain visible if the replacement has a different shape.
