Locksmith work in Delaware County

A key fob has stopped working, and the buttons no longer lock or unlock your vehicle.

The cause could be a weak battery, damage to the remote, or a problem with the vehicle itself. If you have a spare, try it and note whether it responds. That gives us a useful starting point, but it does not establish the cause on its own. We can check the situation and explain whether a replacement or programming is an option for your vehicle.

Elsewhere in Delaware County, a key can break off, a lock may turn stiffly, or a door may not latch as it should. You might also need to change who has access after a move or after copies have gone missing. Avoid forcing a piece that resists, since that can make the problem worse. We work on these concerns in Upper Darby, Chester, Media, and Ridley Township. We will look at the condition of the hardware and explain your choices. Changing which copies operate it keeps the existing hardware in place, while replacement may be appropriate if a part is worn.

Delaware County

Some of the towns we cover

From west to east. The full list is just below.

Across the county

We work across Delaware County, including Media, the county seat, as well as Upper Darby, Chester, Havertown, Radnor, Aston and Swarthmore.

When you call, tell us the town or township where the property is located. A mailing address does not always make the municipality clear, so the local name you use and the address both give us useful details. If you are unsure of the municipality, share the address and any location information you have.

The entrance matters too. Tell us whether you are at the front, side or rear, and mention a sign or other visible feature that distinguishes that door. If you need us at a car, describe where it is parked and give us a landmark or parking space number if one is available. A parking area may have more than one entrance, so include the one you used if that makes the location clearer. If several doors look alike, a number or nearby sign can distinguish the one you mean.

How the towns of Delaware County fit together

Delaware County's seat is in Media, one of the county's boroughs. Other boroughs with their own pages are Brookhaven, Collingdale, Darby, Lansdowne, Ridley Park, Swarthmore and Yeadon.

Chester is a city. Aston and Bethel are townships, as are Concord and Middletown. Nether Providence, Springfield, Thornbury, Upper Chichester and Upper Providence are townships with pages under those names.

Several pages use a community name rather than its township name. Drexel Hill is part of Upper Darby Township, while Havertown is in Haverford Township. Broomall is a community in Marple Township, and the Broomall page also covers Marple Township. Newtown Square is in Newtown Township. Radnor Township includes the communities of Wayne and Villanova, each with its own page. Ridley Township includes Woodlyn and Folsom, which also have individual pages. Upper Darby, Radnor and Ridley Township each have a page under the township name as well.

Businesses

For a business, control over who can enter matters as much as the condition of the entrance. If several people use the same entrance, you may want to limit access to certain areas rather than give everyone the same copy. We can look at the existing hardware and explain which changes are practical, along with what those changes mean for the copies already in use.

Delaware County questions

Can I get a spare car key made while my only one still works?

We make spare car keys and check whether your vehicle needs a programmed chip or remote functions. Your vehicle's make, model and year, along with the working key, tell us what to look for. Some vehicles need the new key programmed to work with the car, while others use a simpler copy.

Why is my deadbolt hard to turn, and what should I do about it?

We inspect a deadbolt that is hard to turn. If you feel resistance, do not force it. Try turning it with the door open, then notice whether the trouble changes when the door is closed. That difference gives us a useful clue about the cause. We explain whether a repair is practical or replacement is the better choice, including what that means for your existing keys.

What should I do about my mailbox lock if I lost the only key?

Check who handles the mailbox before arranging work. If it is part of a shared group, your property manager or local post office may be responsible for it. For a mailbox you maintain yourself, we can inspect the lock and replace it if appropriate. The replacement comes with keys that fit the new lock.

My key broke off in the car door, what should I do with the piece?

We assess a car door lock when a key breaks in it. Do not push the broken piece farther in or try another key in that door. Keep the piece you still have so we can examine it. We check whether the lodged piece can be removed and whether the lock needs repair or replacement. If you need another key, we also check what your vehicle requires.
