What master key systems covers
A master key system gives you a way to control which doors each person can open without carrying a separate key for every lock.
You might give an individual access to one room, a manager access to a group of rooms, and one designated holder access throughout the building. We plan those levels with you, based on how your space is used and which areas need to stay separate. The plan can also account for additional rooms or changes in responsibilities as your business grows, so access does not have to be organized door by door.
The system also needs a way to account for what has been issued. We can set up a record showing who holds each key and which doors it opens, making it easier for you to keep assignments current when roles change. Restricted blanks are another choice. They limit where copies can be made, though they do not prevent every possible duplicate. If a master key goes missing, every door it opens may be at risk. We can review the affected doors and rekey their locks as needed, which means issuing replacements to people who still need access.
Signs you need master key systems
If you carry a ring full of keys and still have to borrow one for the supply room, your current arrangement may no longer match the way you use the building.
Another sign is a shared copy used by people who need access to different spaces. You may want a manager to reach every room while giving individual employees access only to their work areas. If nobody can say who holds each copy, a missing one becomes harder to trace.
A lost master key is a broader concern because it may open every door in the system. You might not know which rooms are exposed or whether copies exist. Unrecorded duplicates are another warning, especially when you want more control over copying than ordinary blanks provide. A planned expansion can also reveal gaps: new offices, storage areas or shared spaces may need different access for supervisors and other workers. If adding a door means handing out broad access just to make it usable, your arrangement may need a fresh look.
How the work goes
When you call, we ask about your doors and the people or roles that need access to each one.
You can identify spaces that should stay separate, such as a supply room and a manager's office. We use that information to plan individual keys, group access, and a master key that covers the full system. If you expect to add doors or change roles as your business grows, tell us so we can account for that in the plan. We also look at the existing locks to see which parts can be reused and which need to be changed.
We explain the available blank options, including whether copying is restricted and who may authorize copies. You decide who holds each one, and we set up a record of the people and doors assigned to each. If the master is lost, its broad access may mean changing every affected lock rather than just one. After you approve the plan, we make the necessary changes and test each level of access with you, including doors that should remain off limits. The completed record gives you a reference for managing holders and future changes, so keep it somewhere secure.

Master Key Systems questions
How can department managers open their areas without getting access to everyone else's rooms?
We map access by person and by door. You might give each manager a key for one department, then give a designated person a master that opens every door in the plan. Individual copies can open just one room. These levels let you separate access without carrying a different copy for every door.
What should I write down when several employees need copies for different rooms?
Keep a record of each copy, the person holding it, and the doors it opens. Note when you issue or collect one, and keep the record somewhere only authorized people can change it. A clear record makes it easier to identify which areas are exposed if a copy goes missing.
Can I make it harder for someone to copy what I give them?
We can explain restricted key blanks and how they limit copying. These are designed to limit where copies can be made and who can authorize them. Restrictions vary by system, so we will explain the rules for the option you choose. You should still keep track of issued copies, because restrictions do not account for copies already in circulation.
We may add another department, so how should we plan access for more rooms?
Tell us what growth you are considering, even if the layout is not settled. We can plan access levels with additional rooms or groups in mind and explain what the chosen system can accommodate. If the building changes beyond that plan, some existing locks may need to be rekeyed to fit the new arrangement.
What happens if the master key for my whole building goes missing?
We can help you identify which doors are exposed when a master goes missing. Use your access record to identify those doors, then consider rekeying them so the missing copy no longer works. We can explain which locks would need that change and how it affects the other copies you use. Until those locks are changed, assume the missing master could still open them.
