What business lockout covers
A business lockout can leave you outside your shop or office when you need to open for customers or secure the space.
Your keys may be lost, or they may be inside where you cannot reach them. We provide business lockout service to get you back through the locked door. If a coworker or another trusted person has a spare, using it may be a practical choice instead. It helps to know who holds a copy and how to reach them. Avoid forcing the door, which could damage the hardware and make the problem harder to resolve.
If your keys are missing, getting back inside does not answer who might have them. Rekeying changes a lock so the missing keys no longer operate it, and you receive keys that fit the changed lock. You can choose which locks to rekey and which coworkers receive copies. Keeping a record of key holders and choosing a secure place for a spare can make access easier to manage. If your keys were locked inside and are accounted for, you may not need to rekey. We can provide new keys for the people who need access.
Signs you need business lockout
You are ready to open your shop, but your keys are sitting on the counter inside.
Or you have locked the office door behind you and discovered that they are still on your desk or in a coat. You might even see them through a window, with no way to reach them. Another entrance may be locked too, leaving you outside even though you know exactly where to find what you need.
A missing key presents a different problem. You may have searched your bag, pockets and vehicle without finding it, or be unsure where you left it. Someone else may have a copy, but that does not mean it is available to you. Check whether a person you trust has one and can bring it, or whether an accessible spare is stored somewhere outside the premises. If neither option gives you a way in, avoid forcing an entrance. That can leave you with damage to deal with as well as the lockout.
How the work goes
When you call, tell us the business address, the type of entrance, and whether your keys are missing or locked inside.
Describe anything unusual about the lock, such as a key that turns but does not release it. It also helps to know whether a coworker has a spare and can bring it. Share details about any other entrances you normally use, so we understand which one you need to open. We will examine the door, explain the available options, and work toward getting you back inside.
If your keys are missing, rekeying is one choice to consider once you are inside. It changes the lock so the old copies no longer work, and you receive a new set. If the same key also operates other doors, tell us so we can talk through which ones need the same change. For better control over employee access, decide who should have a copy, keep a record of each one issued, and set a process for collecting them when someone leaves. Keeping a spare with a trusted person is another option if you want access to a backup.

Business Lockout questions
I left my key on the desk, but a coworker might have a spare. What should I try?
Check whether someone you trust has a spare that works at that entrance. A copy for another door may not fit, even if it looks similar. Avoid forcing the entrance or trying a copy that resists turning, since that could leave the hardware in worse condition.
If a lost copy could be found by someone else, what should I change at my shop?
We can rekey the existing lock so the missing copy no longer works, provided the hardware is suitable. That changes which copies operate it without necessarily replacing the whole assembly. If it is worn or cannot be rekeyed, replacement is another option. Only the access points changed are affected.
What details should I have ready when I call about our office entrance?
Tell us your business name, address, suite number and which entrance you cannot use. Mention whether the keys are missing or visible inside, and describe any markings on the hardware if you can see them. If the entrance is shared with other businesses, tell us that too.
How can I keep track of copies given to different employees at my shop?
Keep a simple record of who holds each copy and which entrances it operates. Decide who can approve additional copies, and collect them when someone no longer needs access. If a copy cannot be accounted for, consider changing the affected entrance rather than assuming it is still under your control.
Our office shares an entrance with another business. What should we consider about access?
We look at who else uses the shared entrance before suggesting changes. If its access is changed, other businesses may need new copies, while an entrance serving only your suite may be a separate concern. We can explain which access points a proposed change would affect, so you can coordinate with the other occupants.
