From your call to the job
When you contact us about a worn, cracking car key in Cheltenham, we ask for the vehicle's make, model and year, and whether the crack is in the metal or the plastic head.
We also ask whether the key still turns, whether any buttons work, and whether it is your only one. Tell us if it has bent or if a piece has already broken off. If it resists turning, avoid forcing it, since that could leave part of the key stuck in the ignition.
Before work begins, we explain whether the existing key can be used to make a replacement or whether we need vehicle information instead. If your car uses a security chip, we explain why a replacement may need programming as well as cutting. You can choose to have an additional key made so you have a spare to keep separately. Once the work is complete, we check the new key with you at the doors and ignition, along with any remote buttons it has. We'll show you which key is the replacement so you can keep the damaged one separate and avoid reaching for it by mistake.
